The Harpactira pulchripes, commonly known as the Golden Blue-Legged Baboon, is widely considered one of the most beautiful tarantulas in the entire hobby. This South African gem features a brilliant golden-yellow carapace paired with vivid metallic blue legs - a color combination that is absolutely breathtaking and unlike anything else in the Old World.

Beyond its looks, the Golden Blue-Legged Baboon is a relatively calm Old World species compared to many of its baboon spider counterparts, making it a popular choice for intermediate hobbyists looking to explore Old World keeping.

Quick Stats:

  • Type: Old World Terrestrial / Burrower
  • Adult Size: 5-6 inches
  • Care Level: Intermediate
  • Temperament: Calmer than most baboon spiders - defensive when threatened
  • Venom: Old World - treat all bites seriously
  • Urticating Hairs: No

Husbandry Tips: Provide dry substrate with a slight moisture gradient and a hide or cork tube. Temperatures of 75-85F. Feed every 7-10 days. This species may burrow - provide at least 4 inches of substrate depth.

If you can only add one Old World species to your collection this year, make it this one.
