Omothymus violaceopes is one of those species that makes people stop scrolling. The Singapore Blue is a legitimately massive Old World arboreal — adults pushing 9+ inches — with leg coloration that doesn't look real in photos and somehow looks even better in person. Intense electric blue legs against a brown or gold carapace. There's nothing else in the hobby that looks quite like it.
Native to Malaysia and Singapore, this is a species that commands respect. Singapore Blues are fast, confident, and will bite as a first line of defense — no threat posturing, no warning. Old World venom, medically significant. This is not a handling species and not a beginner's T. But for an experienced keeper who wants a showpiece that genuinely earns the attention it gets, O. violaceopes is hard to argue with.
Note on sexing: males of this species exhibit strong sexual dimorphism and are significantly less vibrant than females. There's also ongoing taxonomic discussion around male specimens — some may represent a separate species entirely. Females are the holy grail of the Singapore Blue hobby.
